Your Benefit, are you using it? NCNGA

One of the many roles your Association performs on your behalf is the administration of the congressionally sanctioned State Sponsored Life Insurance (SSLI) benefit program. This locally managed program is available to all currently serving North Carolina National Guard Soldiers and Airmen. This is a benefit you can keep even after you take off the uniform after 6 years or 30 years of service. The price will remain the same until age 60. In addition to Servicemember coverage you can obtain coverage for your spouse and dependents. The low-cost premiums are directly deducted from your LES through DFAS.

This is a separate benefit from the nationally managed Servicemembers Group Life Insurance (SGLI) program which converts to a more expensive Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI) program upon separation.

If you believe you are enrolled you can utilize our new benefit portal at www.ncnga.org, just click on sign-in link on the upper right of the page. You can also send us an email at info@ncnga.org to learn more about enrollment.

New NGAUS Rates! NCNGA

At the NGAUS Conference in Denver, there was a majority vote that our dues structure would be reduced from 15 different price points to three. This rate change will be going into effect on October 1, 2019 for the 2020 membership year.

  • Company Grade – $40
  • Field Grade – $80
  • Flag Grade – $130

You can renew or join for the year 2020 here.

Take a look at our new website! NCNGA

We are excited about our new interactive website. You can now create a user profile that will give you access to view your State Sponsored Life Insurance (SSLI) benefits, NGAUS and EANGUS membership, current and past copies of the Tarheel Guardsman, benefit codes and more information to come.

Bragg soldier receives Soldier’s Medal for saving man from burning car Fayetteville Observer

On Feb. 27, 2018, Capt. Travis Johnson was driving home on a pitch black road after hours of training at Fort Bragg and noticed a burning vehicle flipped on its side.

Johnson stopped to rescue a man who called for help.

He texted his chain of command within the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division to let his leaders know his name would be in police reports.

Johnson drove home and went to bed after knowing the man was safe. He didn’t think about the incident until months later.

Now a physician’s assistant with the 60th Troop Command’s Medical Detachment of the North Carolina National Guard, Johnson’s chain of command with the 82nd Airborne Division recommended him for the Soldier’s Medal.

University of North Carolina U.S. Army ROTC cadets tackle three-day field exercise DVIDS

CAMP BUTNER, N.C. – The day began at 2:45 a.m. with almost 70 college students getting ready for a six-mile ruck march, which would be followed by the Engagement Skills Trainer, individual tactical skills training, another two and-a-half mile ruck march, an obstacle course, day land navigation and finally night land navigation.

These aren’t typical college student activities, but this is a new normal for many of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill “Tar Heel” Battalion Reserve Officer Training Corp cadets who were in attendance of the spring semester field training exercise Sept. 27-29.

There are three-day field training exercises in the spring and fall semesters that are planned and operated by the junior and senior cadets.

The purpose is to teach these future leaders how to plan and execute operations, or events, while the newer freshman and sophomores learn basic individual skills, said 2nd Lt. Jasmine Johnson, an aviation officer in the North Carolina Army National Guard and recent graduate of the UNC ROTC program.

Gala honors families of fallen service members, military supporters Fayetteville Observer

PINEHURST — Military families, Gold Star families and retirees were recently honored during a two-day event at the 17th annual Soldiers Appreciation Weekend hosted by The Patriot Foundation.

Founded in 2003 by Spike Smith, the foundation provides scholarships to children of soldiers who have died, are wounded, injured or have become seriously ill while fighting the Global War on Terrorism, organizers said.

To date, the foundation has raised more than $6 million in scholarships for more than 2,000 families.

Angelina Morales is one of the beneficiaries who spoke to a crowd of more than 400 at this year’s gala dinner held Sept. 21 at the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst.

Morales was 18 months old when her father, Staff Sgt. Orlando Morales, was killed during a small arms fight in Afghanistan on March 29, 2003, while serving in the 7th Special Forces Group.
