382nd PAD mobilizes for Operation Atlantic Resolve DVIDS 

Family, friends and fellow North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) Soldiers gather to say farewell to the 382nd Public Affairs Detachment (382nd PAD) during a ceremony at the Claude T. Bowers Military Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, May 9, 2018.

The eight member team is scheduled to deploy to Europe later this spring to providing public affairs support as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve. Their will coverage focus on joint operations of an active Army Cavalry unit out of Ft. Hood, Texas with their Eastern European partners.

Capt. Ellis Parks, the commander of the 382nd PAD said his goal is for his unit to return home safe and as better Soldiers.

“I want to make sure return home safely and upon their return have stories to tell,” Parks said. “and to make sure they improve upon the skills they have now.”

Getting to Know Col. Bryony A. Terrell, the 145th Airlift Wing’s next Wing Commander NCANG 

We have received the first of what will become many photos of our future Wing Commander, Col. Bryony A. Terrell. Following the Change of Command in June, Col. Terrell will be the 145th Airlift Wing’s first female Wing Commander. So how about we take a moment and get to know our future leader!

Col. Terrell entered the Air Force in 1998 and received her commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Ohio University. She has experience in the Regular Air Force and Air National Guard as a support officer, maintenance officer, and operational pilot. Her command experience includes the 167th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, 167th Airlift Wing, Martinsburg, W.Va., and 139th Mission Support Group, 139th Airlift Wing, Saint Joseph, Mo

Southern Pines Officers Honored With Ed Harris Award The Pilot 

A year-long drug investigation, code-named “Operation Leader,” led to the arrest of a “prominent member of an organized street gang” and nine other people accused of contributing to the distribution of cocaine and heroin in Southern Pines, according to police.

On Tuesday, the Southern Pines Town Council honored investigators Jason Perry and Sean Lowery, both Southern Pines Police officers, for their lead roles in the operation.

April — Today in Guard History National Guard 

1968 Phu Cat Air Base, Vietnam – The second Air Guard unit to arrive in Vietnam is Iowa’s 174th Tactical Fighter Squadron. When not engaged in combat operations many of the men volunteered their time to work with abandoned children in nearby orphanages. The medical personnel treated Vietnamese civilians for a variety of diseases and injuries under the MEDCAP (Medical Civic Action Program) project. Some Guardsmen wrote home about the bad conditions at the orphanage and had their families, with the help of local churches and businesses, gather donated clothes, toys, books, and school supplies to help these children.
