NCNGA Educational Foundation: $1/Month Campaign NCNGA
You are aware of the NCNGA Educational Foundation’s fundraising efforts through the years. You’ve enjoyed our Reverse Drawings, Golf tournaments, Raffle tickets, and of course the Little Red Wagon!!
Your contributions are what makes the Educational Foundation successful. The Board of Directors would like to thank all of you for your support over the years. We recently celebrated our 50th year of operations, and since we started we have paid out almost $1.5 million in scholarships to members of the NC National Guard and their families. You can help us continue for the next 50 years with just one dollar a month!
Each year it becomes more difficult to conduct large-scale events to provide the funds necessary to operate. While our Board members participate on a 100% volunteer basis, we still have certain minimal costs to operate our office and process our annual scholarship applications and to award payments. We are asking for your assistance in sustaining our Educational Foundation.
As active or retired members of the NC National Guard Air and Army, we are asking you to consider donating just $1 each month to the NCNGA Educational Foundation. There are several ways you can donate – the easiest is to simply make a monthly commitment via our WEB site at edfoundationofncnga.org. You can also mail a check for $12 to our offices at 7410 Chapel Hill Rd/ Raleigh, NC 27607. Visit our website at www.edfoundationofncnga.org for more information.
Again, Thank you for supporting the NCNGA Educational Foundation, a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization.
Moldovan field artillery trains with North Carolina Guard US Army
FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Moldovan field artillery officers visit the North Carolina National Guard’s 139th Regional Training Institute as part of a State Partnership Program engagement from August 12 – 17.
SPP was established over two decades ago and fosters military-to-military and civilian-to-military activities maintaining international defensive security efforts while increasing peace and stability across the globe.
This visit allows officers to engage with National Guard field artillery Soldiers during their cannon section chief Advanced Leader Course (ALC).
“This is important for the Moldovans because we have had two decades of partnership with Moldova and that helps with stability in that region,” said Lt. Col. Brian Grey, the 1st Battalion, 139th Field Artillery Regiment commander. “This allows them to see how we do training, bring some lessons learned back to their country and increase professionalism. One of the things they are working toward is increasing the professionalism of their NCO core and mirroring what we have.”
Ceremony Honors North Carolina National Guard Soldiers Deploying to Middle East Spectrum
CONCORD, N.C.– On Sunday, the North Carolina National Guard hosted a mobilization ceremony for 600 soldiers who will be deploying to the Middle East in the fall.
For 80 percent of the members of the 1st Batallion, 113 Field Artillery Regiment, it will be their first deployment.
For Specialist Michael Driggers from Concord, it will be his second time. “I’m looking forward to it, we have great leaders that will lead us into the right position and they’ll help us out and give us the information that we need,” Driggers said.
The 1st Battalion, 113 Field Artillery Regiment is part of the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team, which has 400 National Guard soldiers.
They come from West Virginia, Ohio, South Carolina and North Carolina.
According to Major Michael Kluttz, they will go in support of Operation Spartan Shield. Their mission will be to work with the Kuwaiti army and other countries to help deter any aggression from Iran or terrorist groups. In addition, they will train the Kuwaiti army.
“It’s not going to be every day driving around Humvees, worried about IEDs or an actual active shooter and stuff when you go to the actual villages. We will be working with countries bolstering their ability to function as an army,” Kluttz said.
This time, the brigade will not be going to a combat zone, which Kluttz said has come as a relief for loved ones.
“It definitely has settled a lot of nerves for my family,” Kluttz said.
National Guard member promoted to lieutenant colonel Stanly N&P
Members of the North Carolina Air National Guard, family and friends gathered to celebrate U.S. Air Force Maj. Bradley Claxton, 263rd Combat Communications Squadron commander, as he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel Aug. 3 in New London.
Claxton’s immediate and extended family enjoyed witnessing the appreciation of his work commemorated in a ceremony.
“I’m really excited. He’s worked really hard and it’s been a process as a family, too, but it’s definitely been worth it and he deserves it,” Claxton’s son, Jonathan, said.
Claxton began his career in the North Carolina Air National Guard as an enlisted member in New London. While he served a few years at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport base, his family was happy to return to the New London location and rekindle old friendships.

1837 Southampton, Virginia – About 70 runaway slaves led by Nat Turner began a two-day killing spree that leaves 63 white men, women and children dead. As the alarm spreads, local militia units, soon joined by others dispatched from large cities like the Richmond Light Infantry Blues, hunt the perpetrators down. Most are killed while fleeing or hung upon capture. And an unknown number of innocent blacks are beaten or killed. Turner escaped capture until October 31. He was quickly tried and hung as a object lesson against other insurrectionists.
