As we strive to enhance each NCNGA Convention year after year we are happy to announce the debut of our new NCNGA Convention App. Those that attended last year’s NGAUS Convention in Nashville were highly impressed with the interactive App they provided. We have now partnered with this same company to develop one for our function. You can find the App in the Apple Store or the Google Play store on your phone. Cadets making up Class 01 of the North Carolina National Guard’s Tarheel Challenge Youth Academy celebrated with roars of laughter and joy during their graduation ceremony at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center on April 21, 2016. Class 01 is the first class through the recently opened and newly renovated elementary school in New London. Parents applauded, cried out with joy and cheered as they watched their son or daughter accept their credentials and walk across the stage. Read More…

Well, that didn’t take long. The U.S. Senate recently approved a bill that would give the Department of Veterans Affairs $83 billion for fiscal year 2017, with added money slated for interoperability of its electronic health record and telemedicine efforts. The Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill provides $3.1 billion more than last year’s funding, including $260 million for updating its electronic health record system and $1.17 billion for telemedicine. The North Carolina National Guard Association Education Foundation recently awarded a Soldiers and Airmens Fund Scholarship to Tavoy Walls of Clarkton in the amount of $1,000. Walls was deemed to have excelled academically and participated in various community and school activities to qualify for the scholarship. Read More…

Legislation introduced by U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar recently, would create a “center of excellence” within the Department of Veterans Affairs to further “prevention, diagnosis, mitigation, treatment and rehabilitation of health conditions relating to exposure to burn pits.” The senator compared the effects of burn pits — which the military has used over the years in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places to dispose of trash, chemicals and more — to those of the infamous Agent Orange defoliant in Vietnam, noting that it took the government years to properly help veterans affected by that chemical. She wants to make sure that doesn’t happen with burn-pit smoke. Read More…
