When disaster strikes close to home, the National Guard often jumps into action and recently, the North Carolina National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters hosted a family day for hundreds of members. The year has been busy for the National Guard. When the police shooting of Keith Scott sparked riots in Charlotte in September, Gov. McCrory called on the National Guard to keep the peace. In October, Hurricane Matthew caused devastation across the state, putting more than 1,100 members on duty for three weeks. Read More…

NCNGA Executive Director Craig Lloyd was recently appointed to serve on the NGAUS Insurance Trust Board. The NGAUS Insurance Trust (NGAUS-IT) was created in 1963 to assist in the administration of retirement planning and death benefits for military technicians and their families. These insurance programs were authorized by Executive Order 10996 (Feb. 16, 1962) and Article 5 U.S.C., Section 5518, which were enacted by President John F. Kennedy and the Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara. This appointed aligns with the NCNGA’s goal to place representatives in key strategic positions to represent the Association and NCNG initiatives. Read More…

The North Carolina National Guard Association and the North Carolina National Guard are happy to announce the date for our next Tarheel Homecoming on 16 December 2016. We invite retirees and prior service National Guard members to attend and learn more about current guard operations and provide information on retiree benefits. We will also be celebrating the National Guard’s 380th birthday celebration during the event. The event will be hosted at Joint Force Headquarters at 1636 Gold Star Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607. Our North Carolina National Guard Association and Time and Place Committee are proud to announce that this year’s 56th annual Convention will be hosted at Sea Trail Resort in Sunset beach between March 18-19. It has been a number of years since we have been at Sea Trail and the coast, we are happy to bring it back by popular demand. With the great accommodations and amenities at the resort we believe this year will surpass previous years’ attendance, so we encourage you to book early. The Army’s top officer had a simple message for the 82nd Airborne Division and Fort Bragg during a visit recently. “Be ready,” said Gen. Mark A. Milley, the Army chief of staff. Speaking at a promotion ceremony for an 82nd Airborne Division general, Milley said the nation would need the forces of Fort Bragg, which are known for being ready to deploy anywhere in the world on short notice. Brent Orr presided over the conference which featured keynote speakers Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell, Jr., Department of the Army Highly Qualified Expert Senior Mentor, and Col. J. After nearly 24 hours of drenching rain helped quench a series of devastating wildfires in eastern Tennessee, local officials turned to cleanup and recovery efforts even as they battled their own personal crises. A Defense Department spokesman, Major Jamie Davis of the US Army, said the Tennessee National Guard, with help from the North Carolina and South Carolina National Guard, was assisting civilian authorities with uncontrolled wildfires in Eastern Tennessee and firefighting operations taking place in the area near Pinnacle Mountain along the North Carolina/South Carolina border.
