Our North Carolina National Guard Association and Time and Place Committee are proud to announce that this year’s 56th annual Convention will be hosted at Sea Trail Resort in Sunset beach between March 18-19. It has been a number of years since we have been at Sea Trail and the coast, we are happy to bring it back by popular demand. With flames dripping from tree branches like lava and the air filled with embers, thousands of people raced through a hell-like landscape as they fled from wildfires that killed three people and destroyed hundreds of homes and a resort in the Great Smoky Mountains. The fires spread quickly on Monday night, when winds topping 87 mph whipped up the flames, catching residents and tourists in the Gatlinburg area by surprise. Troops would get their biggest pay raise in years under the final version of Congress’ annual defense policy bill unveiled Nov. 29. The 2.1-percent increase included in the National Defense Authorization Act would break a five-year trend of raises that have fallen below the private sector. The higher pay would go into effect Jan. 1 if the bill is passed by Congress and it could receive an initial vote in the House on Dec. 2. Read More…

We invite retirees and prior service National Guard members to attend and learn more about current guard operations and provide information on retiree benefits. We will also be celebrating the National Guard’s 380th birthday celebration during the event. The event will be hosted at Joint Force Headquarters at 1636 Gold Star Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607. The Department of Veterans Affairs will work with Flow Health to build a medical knowledge graph to inform decision-making and train artificial intelligence to personalize care plans. The objective of the 5-year partnership, Flow Health executives said in a statement, is to understand the common elements that make certain people susceptible to particular diseases, to pinpoint effective treatments and identify possible side effects in order to inform care decisions. U.S. forces participating in a multinational war game were tested with a barrage of cyber attacks, electronic-warfare jamming and drones that confirmed major gaps in capabilities that must be remedied, according to a leader of an office dedicated to deploying new technologies quickly. “We need this type of assessment,” Major General Walter Piatt, operations director of the Army’s new Rapid Capabilities Office, said of the exercise last month. It was critical “to set this up in the dirt of West Texas and the hands of real soldiers,” he added. Read More…
