The stars descended on South Carolina between Oct. 14 and Oct. 18 as the Chief of National Guard Bureau, Gen. Frank J. Grass, with Air Force Command Chief Master Sgt. The future of Army operations should be a blend of soldiers from active duty, the Reserves and the National Guard working together, top leaders say. Gen. Mark Milley, chief of staff of the Army, said all components of the Army should be integrated and fighting together as one. “We are a total Army — regular Army, Reserve and National Guard,” he said. “We are the U.S. Army indivisible.” Read More…

Defense legislation lawmakers agreed to recently would let commanders authorize troops to carry guns on military bases in the U.S. The annual defense authorization bill calls for Defense Secretary Ashton Carter to establish a process by Dec. 31 in which commanders can authorize a service member at a military installation, reserve center, recruiting location or defense facility in the U.S. to carry a gun on the premises if he or she “determines that carrying such a firearm is necessary as a personal- or force-protection measures.” Read More…

Alex has stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer that forms in muscle tissue. But Alex can forget that he’s a boy in a fight and focus on living his dream. The 7-year-old is becoming a soldier.
