We appreciate your interest in this year’s annual NCNGA convention. This year we celebrate our 55th year convention and continue to strive to make each year’s better and more informative than ever. As you know, we host our business session at each year’s convention where the policies are set and officers for the coming year are elected. Our membership is a strong 16,000+ and we would love to see as many attend as possible. This past year we brought back our popular Casino night and more than doubled the number of exhibitors. The group Operation Coming Home is once again building a home for one of our wounded warriors. The house will be built in Fuquay-Varina, on Walker Ranch Drive, for Sgt. Jimmion Clayton. In 2012 while he was on patrol in Afghanistan, a suicide bombing injured him and killed three other soldiers. Read More…

The Association has a great opportunity for you. Our annual conference is our largest gathering of retirees and current Guard members throughout the year. One of the highlights of the conference is our hospitality suites hosted by various units and our retirees. The retiree hospitality suite is looking for new individuals to help in the management and hosting of their area. The Association is currently hosting a photo contest through Dec. 31. Moore Buick–GMC of Jacksonville has donated a $100 Lowes gift card as the prize. Entries can include anything you wish with a National Guard/Military theme from Christmas homecomings to patriotic photos. The NCNGA in partnership with the NC VetsCorps and their Legal Aid team we will be hosting a monthly call-in/ webinar on issues affecting our retired and current Guard members. The series will start on Jan. 26 at 7:00 with more details to follow. The January topic will be “Veterans Benefits 101.” Each month we will be featuring different topics and participation is free to members. The Association’s continual goal is to improve our memberships quality of life and this new series is one example of our effort. In 1636 in Salem, Massachusetts, when the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony ordered the organization of the colony’s separate militia companies into three regiments on this date, the National Guard was born. Designated as the North, East and South regiments today their descendents are: North-181st and 182nd Infantry; East-101st Engineer Battalion; South-1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery. Read More…

When more than 1,200 runners took off on the annual Reindeer Dash for Cash 5K and 10-mile races, held Dec. 6 in Greenville, North Carolina, they were joined in spirit by groups of North Carolina National Guard Soldiers running shadow races across the globe. The race is held in honor of U.S. Army Capt. Christopher S. Cash, a NCNG Soldier who was killed in action in 2004 while serving as a company commander in Iraq. Read More…

A program to accelerate the degree path for veterans, U.S. armed forces, and members of the National Guard and Reserves has been introduced by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the school said in a release. The initiative, with a planned launch of fall 2016, is an expansion of the UNC CORE general education program to include an undergraduate general education certificate. Participants will have access to online general education core courses that can be taken from a distance on a flexible schedule. Read More…

Soldiers continue to struggle with eating healthy and getting enough sleep, according to the Army’s first Health of the Force report. The report, released Dec. 10 by the Army surgeon general’s office, gives leaders and commanders a snapshot of active-duty soldier health across 30 U.S.-based installations in 2014. Read More…
