North Carolina state leader’s and private sector business professionals gathered recently to urge the public to vote yes for the CONNECT NC $2 billion bond package during the March 15, 2016 primary. Maj. Gen. Lusk was honored to lead the attendees in the Pledge of Alliance to begin the event. Gov. McCrory spoke of how this bond will move North Carolina forward into the 21st century and will impacts the entire state. The bond will invest in higher education construction projects, water and sewer infrastructure, state parks, upgrading NC National Guard infrastructure, and agricultural investments. Read More…

We appreciate your interest in this year’s annual NCNGA convention. This year we celebrate our 55th year convention and continue to strive to make each year’s better and more informative than ever. As you know, we host our business session at each year’s convention where the policies are set and officers for the coming year are elected. Our membership is a strong 16,000+ and we would love to see as many attend as possible. This past year we brought back our popular Casino night and more than doubled the number of exhibitors. The NCNGA in partnership with the NC VetsCorps and their Legal Aid team we will be hosting a monthly call-in/ webinar on issues affecting our retired and current Guard members. The series will start on Jan. 26 at 7:00 with more details to follow. The January topic will be “Veterans Benefits 101.” Each month we will be featuring different topics and participation is free to members. The Association’s continual goal is to improve our memberships quality of life and this new series is one example of our effort. Snowstorms crippled the South and Midwest. The West burned. Riots hit a major city. South Carolina flooded. She and 200 other rebellious, unfocused high school dropouts were getting a wake-up call like none they’d ever heard. The North Carolina Air National Guard promoted Sanford resident Clarence Ervin to the rank of brigadier general, becoming the first African-American general officer in the N.C. Air Guard’s 67-year history. Ervin pinned on the rank during a ceremony at the North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh last month. Read More…

As U.S. commanders in Afghanistan look ahead to the 2016 fighting season, they plan to keep force levels steady while deploying special operations troops and “expeditionary advise-and-assist” teams to support the Afghan army’s ground-level fight against the Taliban insurgency, a top U.S. general in Afghanistan said. “We expect the troop levels for 2016 to look about what they did for 2015,” said Army Brig.
