Snow, sleet and ice cover central North Carolina as local authorities call for support. North Carolina Guard leaders in Goldsboro task Soldiers for an early morning mission. A carpenter, several students and medical technicians leave home, put on their uniform and reported for duty. This is a drill, a North Carolina National Guard, or NCNG, domestic response drill. We appreciate your interest in this year’s annual NCNGA convention. This year we celebrate our 55th year convention and continue to strive to make each year’s better and more informative than ever. As you know, we host our business session at each year’s convention where the policies are set and officers for the coming year are elected. Our membership is a strong 16,000+ and we would love to see as many attend as possible. This past year we brought back our popular Casino night and more than doubled the number of exhibitors. It was a happy homecoming for local National Guardsmen as they reunited with friends and family members. The North Carolina Army National Guard’s 1450th Transportation Company flew into Charlotte recently. The guardsmen from western North Carolina have been deployed to Kuwait for nearly a year and met up with their loved ones at the armory. Read More…

The 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team had a history-making day in Durham recently. Old Hickory soldiers were part of a ceremony for the creation/reorganization of the 30th Special Troops Battalion (STB) into a brigade engineer battalion; the 236th Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB). Read More…

As promised, last month’s omnibus spending act will successfully avoid automatic cuts through sequestration in fiscal 2016, according to estimates required of the Congressional Budget Office. In a late-December report on the spending caps going through fiscal 2021, the nonpartisan agency said: “In CBO’s estimation, such a sequestration will not be required for 2016,” because spending will come in under the caps in the 2015 Bipartisan Budget Act. Congress could still breach the caps if lawmakers provide extra appropriations between now and the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30, CBO noted. If that is the case, the excess spending would count against the fiscal 2017 total. Read More…
