North Carolina voters heavily favored the Connect NC bond referendum Tuesday, allowing the state to borrow $2 billion for campus construction and infrastructure. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, the bond sailed toward passage, with about two-thirds of voters saying yes. The referendum, at the bottom of a loaded primary ballot, asked voters to back state borrowing that supporters vowed would require no tax increase. Read More…

Due to the passage of the Connect N.C. bond referendum in Tuesday’s elections, the North Carolina National Guard can move forward on a project in McLeansville. According to a press release, a N.C. National Guard Regional Readiness Center will be built in McLeansville using some of the bond’s $2 billion. The center is part of the National Guard’s $70 million infrastructure improvement plan involving three sites across the state. Read More…

From the United States Army Financial Management Command: It is the Secretary of Defense and Army policy that Soldiers use myPay for retrieving their LES. Effective with your May 2016 LES, a hard copy LES will no longer be mailed to you. An electronic copy of your LES will be available in myPay. An e-LES instead of a mailed copy mitigates the risk of identity theft of personal and financial data. You are strongly encouraged to set up a “view-only” access in myPay for your family members. Just over a year ago, the Joint Chiefs signed a letter addressed to all of those who have served in uniform since Sept. 11, 2001, recognizing that they “stepped forward as volunteers” when our nation needed them most. With an eye toward the future and the understanding that approximately 1 million service members will hang up their uniforms in the next five years, the Joint Chiefs implored service members to apply their “experience, intellect and character” in their communities as veterans. Aptly, the letter has come to be called “The Call to Continued Service” — a rallying call for veterans to seize opportunities to make a difference and apply their intrinsic leadership traits to enhance their new role within their civilian communities. Army Directive 2016-01, Expanding Positions and Changing the Army Policy for the Assignment of Female Soldiers, 29 Jan 16 announces the opening of all remaining positions in conventional force units to women and the elimination of a separate policy for the assignment of female Soldiers.
