As Hurricane Matthew barrels toward the southeastern United States today, additional National Guard members in South Carolina and Florida are assisting in disaster-relief preparations and plans for recovery. The North Carolina National Guard Association and the North Carolina National Guard are happy to announce the date for our next Tarheel Homecoming on 16 December 2016. We invite retirees and prior service National Guard members to attend and learn more about current guard operations and provide information on retiree benefits. We will also be celebrating the National Guard’s 380th birthday celebration during the event. The event will be hosted at Joint Force Headquarters at 1636 Gold Star Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607. The National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) Fellows Program is designed to bring Army and Air National Guard Lieutenants, Captains and Warrant Officers (in the grade of WO1 and/or CW2) to the Headquarters of the NGAUS for a period of one year. The intent of this program is to help develop practical experience in the fundamentals of interaction between the U.S. Congress and the agencies that affect the National Guard in both state and federal missions. North Carolina government’s formal intervention to help Charlotte investigate a fatal police shooting and keep the peace following violent protests has cost $1.7 million so far. Gov. Pat McCrory disclosed the figure at a recent meeting of the Council of State, comprised of statewide elected officials. McCrory says the amount covered bringing in state troopers and North Carolina National Guard members to Charlotte, as well as the State Bureau of Investigation. Read More…

In the coming months, First Army will put more trainers in Army National Guard and Army Reserve units as part of a sweeping effort to increase readiness across the force, the command’s top officer said. The partnerships will enable First Army observer/controller/trainers to better support the reserve component with the goal of reducing the amount of time units spend preparing to deploy once they’ve been mobilized, said Lt.
