title NC Guard combat engineers save nurse stranded by Hurricane Matthew

desc Two Combat Engineers from the 151st Engineer Battalion, based in Laurinburg, rescued a local nurse, who had been stranded clinging to a tree for hours, during severe flooding from Hurricane Matthew in the pre-dawn hours, outside of Wilson. The nurse did not return home from work and was reported missing, when the NC Emergency Management Central Branch was called to send out a search and rescue team. Capt. Bert Henderson from the Wilson Fire Department and 2nd Lt. Wyatt Koch and Spc. Robert Shook with the NC National Guard where part of a multi-agency rescue team that began to look for the missing nurse.

desc The North Carolina National Guard post in Elkin will be growing in land mass as well as motor fleet following action by the Elkin Board of Commissioners recently. Elkin Public Works Director Robert Fuller said the NC National Guard is working to consolidate its facilities across the state, and its leaders have a desire to triple the size of the motor fleet at the Elkin Armory on North Bridge Street, but are unable to do that on the existing property due to space constraints.

desc Eleven senators have called for Wells Fargo Bank to step up its efforts to follow the law in the wake of the most recent alleged violations of troops’ and families’ consumer rights. The senators have also asked the bank to justify why it should continue to be allowed to operate on some military bases, given the alleged violations. Wells Fargo is among a number of banks that have agreements with specific military installations to be the exclusive bank operating on that base.

desc The Army will begin recruiting for all components, trying to find the best fit for a new soldier in the active component, the Reserve or the Army National Guard, the commander of Army Recruiting Command says. Maj. Gen. Jeffrey J. Snow told Federal News Radio that the service will allow all Army recruiters to find soldiers for all three components.
