In stark contrast to past disputes, the head of the National Guard Bureau took pains today to praise the Army Chief of Staff for bringing full-time and part-time troops together. In particular, NGB director Gen. Joseph Lengyel said, the National Guard can train and deploy more often alongside the regular Army, it wants to do more, and thanks to Army chief Mark Milley’s Associated Units pilot program, it’s well on its way to doing more. The North Carolina National Guard Association and the North Carolina National Guard are happy to announce the date for our next Tarheel Homecoming on 16 December 2016. We invite retirees and prior service National Guard members to attend and learn more about current guard operations and provide information on retiree benefits. We will also be celebrating the National Guard’s 380th birthday celebration during the event. The event will be hosted at Joint Force Headquarters at 1636 Gold Star Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607. The Pentagon will request about $6 billion more for the current fiscal year to pay for troop increases in Iraq, a slower draw-down of troops from Afghanistan and more intense air operations, according to Pentagon Comptroller Mike McCord. The “budget amendment” also will respond to an urgent request from field commanders for additional systems to counter Islamic State drones, McCord said in an interview. “You start to see these in play now in the fight,” he said. The 82nd Airborne Division is the largest unit on Fort Bragg, counting more than 18,000 soldiers among its ranks. But in recent weeks, the All Americans have been adding reinforcements. The 82nd Airborne added two new units in October. The 82nd Airborne’s Main Command Post – Operational Detachment was activated Oct. 17. The MCPOD is made up of about 100 soldiers from the North Carolina National Guard and the Army Reserve. Read More…
