Growing Western NC fires lead to national call for help Citizen-Times
As a spate of wildfires has broken out across much of the Southeast, firefighters have been called in from as far as Puerto Rico and Alaska to help contain about 20 wildfires in Western North Carolina. NC National Guard soldiers hold ceremony before yearlong deployment to Iraq, Kuwait WNCN-TV
Soldiers of the North Carolina National Guard’s 258th Engineer Utilities Detachment held a ceremony recently before deploying for southwest Asia. Tarheel Homecoming set for December NCNGA
The North Carolina National Guard Association and the North Carolina National Guard are happy to announce the date for our next Tarheel Homecoming on 16 December 2016. We invite retirees and prior service National Guard members to attend and learn more about current guard operations and provide information on retiree benefits. We will also be celebrating the National Guard’s 380th birthday celebration during the event. The event will be hosted at Joint Force Headquarters at 1636 Gold Star Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607. November —Today in Guard History National Guard
In 1990 in Washington, D.C., President George H. W. Bush extends the initial mobilization of all Reserve Component units called in support of Operation Desert Shield from 90 days to 180 days (soon to be increased to 360 days) as the mission changes from defending Saudi Arabia from Iraqi invasion to compelling the Iraqi Army to withdraw from Kuwait. Along with this announcement came his decision to send an additional 200,000 troops (all branches) to the Southwest Asia theater. Read More…

Army testing new aim-stabilizing firearm Guns.com
The U.S. Army began its first round of live fire testing on the AimLock Stabilized Weapon platform, which seeks to elevate accuracy through aim stabilization. Developed by civilian company Rocky Mountain Scientific Laboratory out of Littleton, Colorado, the AimLock aids in target engagement, reducing target acquisition time as well as “shooter wobble” when firing from a standing position.
